Gary Becker - A Treatise on the Family
quantity demanded of any good is negatively related to its price: the "law of negatively sloped demand curves." This law has been extremely important in practical applications and is one of the most significant and universal laws in the social sciences, even though it results more from limited resources than from utility maximization.

Mentally disturbed philosopher
William James: radical empiricism, influenced philosophers and academics such as Émile Durkheim-one of the principal architects of modern social science, alongside Max Weber and Karl Marx.

Paul Feyerabend: The depression stayed with me for over a year.
Max Weber: Weber Sr. died two months after a severe quarrel with his son that was never resolved. After this, Weber became increasingly prone to depression, nervousness and insomnia, making it difficult for him to fulfill his duties as a professor.
Henry James: His depression was compounded by the deaths of those closest to him, including his sister Alice in 1892

Conspicuous Consumption

Examples that are conspicuous consumption 1. Tourism. If tourists are not allowed to take pictures and post on social media, then the pleasure and interest of tourism will decrease substantially. From this point of view, tourist is just a show, to identify yourself as a hedonist who can afford the leisure time and do not need to work, or it is an identification of showing power since you can afford the tickets, hotel, food, leisure activities including in the toursim. Some will argue that tourism can also be a way to learn local culture and broaden the eyeview. First, I think there is little knowledge that you could learn from a typical travel lasting for several days, it is a much less efficient way to learn knowledge than reading a book or watching a documentary.
